I am Not Your Babe

In a world where art often serves as a mirror reflecting societal values and challenges, my new piece was featured at the FLUX Exhibition this July at the Bomb Factory in Marylebone, London 2025. The artwork showcases a vintage superhero icon layered with graffiti elements that transform the familiar into something provocative and thought-provoking. At first glance, the image of the superhero—often celebrated for her strength and resilience—captures attention with her iconic costume and confident stance. However, the addition of graffiti, particularly the phrase “I AM NOT YOUR BABE,” disrupts the traditional narrative and challenges the objectification often associated with female figures in pop culture, urging viewers to reconsider how we perceive and portray women in media.

This juxtaposition not only highlights the evolution of female representation in comics but also serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for gender equality. The graffiti elements add a contemporary twist, merging street art with classic comic imagery, and inviting a dialogue about the role of women in both art and society. This artwork embodies the spirit of empowerment, encouraging individuals—especially women—to reclaim their narratives and assert their identities beyond societal labels. As the viewer engages with this piece, you are invited to reflect on our own perceptions and the stories we tell. It challenges us to embrace the complexities of identity and to celebrate the diverse expressions of power and femininity. We are not just characters in someone else’s story; we are the authors of our own.
